Various Artists - Good Times Vol. 2
The local Italian talent on Good Times Vol. 2 show their disco heritage in the whooping, spaced out synth patches that feature. But coming from a sublabel that leans towards organic house and disco, it's characterised a lot more by roughness than the smooth lines of Italo, and apart from "Saturday Night," it's also at dragging tempos. (No bad thing in this context.) On D'Aquino's contribution, a buried vocal swagger, smooth synth washes, and god knows what else meld into something that feels like a whole heap of confusion. E-dward! and The Clover both have fairly novel things to say loosely along these lines, the former with a dragging avalanche of rough big beat rhythms and the latter with a more rapid patter and midnight jazziness. Riccio doesn't communicate as much that we haven't heard before, instead simply delivering the "good good feeling" observed/proposed by the diva vocalist. It's less inventive, but he brings as much to the table here as anyone else.
