Björk, Arca to play Manchester International Festival

  • Björk and Arvo Pärt are among the musical acts booked for MIF15, the Manchester festival running July 2nd through the 19th. The Icelandic icon will play her first European show since the release of Vulnicura at MIF 15. She'll appear at Castlefield Arena on July 5th. The festival, which began in 2007, also features a number of musicians taking part in interdisciplinary projects. Damon Albarn has scored a new musical based on Lewis Carroll's classic, wonder.land. FKA Twigs will take up residency at the Old Granada studios from July 9th through the 15th, and during that period, she'll create seven short films with a host of collaborators. And as previously reported, Jamie xx has composed music for Tree Of Codes, a piece for ballet choreographed and directed by Wayne MacGregor. The minimalist composer Arvo Pärt performs at The Bridgewater Hall on July 12th. Pärt will also debut work inspired by the painter Gerhard Richter during multiple recitals from the 9th through the 11th. The diverse event also features a revival of Caryl Churchill's 1994 play, The Skriker, with new music commissioned from Nico Muhly and Antony. Finally, On the 4th, Arca will perform with his visual collaborator Jesse Kanda.
