  • This year's Glastonbury festival will feature a women-only venue for the first time. Organizers describe Sisterhood as an "intersectional, queer, trans and disability-inclusive space open to all people who identify as women." All of the staff who are working the venue will also be female-identified. It will be "hidden" somewhere inside of the Shangri-La section of the festival, with live music and DJs spanning "disco, bass, pop, riotgrrl, punk and funk," NME reports. No acts have been announced at this time. Speaking to the necessity of a women-only space at the festival, the venue's organizers said:
"The producers of the Sisterhood believe that women only spaces are necessary in a world that is still run by and designed to benefit mainly men... Sisterhood seeks to provide a secret space for women to connect, network, share their stories, have fun and learn the best way to support each other in our global struggle to end oppression against women and all marginalised people, whilst showcasing the best and boldest female talent in the UK and beyond.
The founder of Glastonbury said earlier this week that they may be moving next year's festival to a new location. Read up on that here. For more on the Glastonbury experience, check out Carlos Hawthorn's review from last year.
